Why Do We Use Information Communication Technology In the Classroom ?
The Australian Curriculum Discusses how “ICT capability supports and enhances student learning across all areas of the curriculum. Students develop and apply ICT knowledge, skills and appropriate social and ethical protocols and practices to investigate, create and communicate, as well as developing their ability to manage and operate ICT to meet their learning needs” (Australian Curriculum , 2014). This means by incorporating the use of ICT into our teaching and learning our students receive knowledge and skills to meet their learning needs across other learning areas such as maths, English, science or history.
We understand that there has been some concern from parents and care giver about enhancing the education of the students by adding ICT. We have had some parents express their concerns about making it to easy for the children. Some concerns have been about making the students too reliant on technology or others cares simply have concerns that using ICT is making it more difficult for our students to understand.
We do understand that these are concerns you have about using ICT we assure you that we take into account these concerns and it is our motto that “Every decision to use educational technologies in a lesson, unit or program must be based on proper consideration of whether the technology will enhance the learning process or whether it will make it more complicated” (Churchill, et al., 2013). If using ICT does not enhance the learning experience then we do not incorporate it into the learning. It is that simple, we want only the best for our students.
